Mural Makers

The Long Beach Arts Council proudly presents "Mural Makers," an inspiring after-school program that empowered young artists aged 13-17 to explore the world of public art and murals.

Under the guidance of talented teaching-artists, Melinda DG and Allie Ahearne, students embarked on a creative journey that culminated in the creation of a breathtaking mural.

Making Art Work for Long Beach

In the spring of 2023, the Long Beach Arts Council was awarded a grant from the Statewide Community Regrant Program. We hosted a course that featured classes involving initial meetings, renderings creation, reworking designs and amending ideas, as well as learning the requisite supplies and materials needed for the different surfaces.

The final mural project was based upon the students' design, guided by the teachers.

The mural is located at the outdoor Bayfront Recreation Park. This project invigorates a space that is visited and utilized by students and families of all ages and backgrounds.

“From planning to priming to the final install this mural was filled with excitement! We loved bringing student ideas together to create a collaborative, joyful and inviting mural for the Long Beach Rec!”
