Earth Day 2023

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, the Long Beach New York Arts Council hosted an Earth Day celebration, featuring live musical performances, arts and crafts, and a new sculpture reveal.

The sculpture, installed at the southwest corner of Long Beach City Hall (West Chester St. & National Blvd), was donated by the NY Marine Rescue Center as part of a marine life awareness initiative across several Long Island waterfront communities.

The artwork was designed, painted, and mosaicked by Arts Council Board Members and volunteers.

On the day of the reveal, the sculpture was covered with an upcycled tarp, embellished with pieces of beach trash collected by LB Cleanup, a local non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of our coastal community.

Overall, the local Earth Day celebration was a success, bringing together the community for a day of fun, education, and environmental awareness. As the planet faces increasingly urgent environmental challenges, events like this serve as a reminder of the importance of taking action to protect the planet and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
